What’s New for 2014

NEW Mandatory Harvest Reporting Requirements Remember that new mandatory harvest reporting requirements are in effect this year. If you held a 2013-2014 deer, elk, antelope or turkey license, the deadline to file a free report is February 15th, 2014. After this date, an $8 late fee will apply, but you MUST report before the March 19th application deadline or you will be rejected from the big game draw. If you hold a 2013-2014 barbary sheep, javelina, oryx, ibex, or trapper license, the deadline to report is April 7th, 2014. License holders must file a report, even if they didn’t hunt or trap. Failure to file your mandatory harvest report on time will result in rejection of all big game applications. New Application Purchase Options New Mexico residents may select a Second-Rod validation when purchasing the Game-hunting & Fishing License. Salmon Snagging Season Opens Nov. 8 at Heron Lake

Anglers already have been snagging salmon at Abiquiu Lake, the Chama River from El Vado Lake to the west boundary of the Rio Chama wildlife and fishing area, the Pine River, El Vado Lake, Navajo Lake and Eagle Nest Lake, where the season runs Oct. 1 through Dec. 31. Snagging was reported as excellent at Navajo Lake by anglers working the south corner of the dam Oct. 29, but it has slowed at Eagle Nest and El Vado. Invasive species control act will help protect New Mexico waters

WATERS SANTA FE - Gov. Bill Richardson's signing of the Aquatic Invasive Species Control Act now allows the Department of Game and Fish and its partners to take actions to protect New Mexico waters from negative impacts of aquatic invasive species. Passed unanimously by the House and Senate, House Bill 467 is intended to help keep invasive species such as zebra and quagga mussels out of state waters. An emergency clause mandates that the act take effect immediately. The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is urging everyone who uses the state's lakes and streams to recognize the importance of the act and help keep invasive species out of state waters. [...]
