GAME COMMISSION TO MEET THURSDAY IN SANTA FE

SANTA FE -- The State Game Commission will meet Thursday in Santa Fe to consider new rules that identify the responsibilities of hunters, anglers and landowners regarding hunting and fishing on private land; and to hear a report on a proposal by a group of concerned landowners to change elk hunting rules and management objectives in the Jemez Mountains.
 
The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the Leo Griego Auditorium of the Willie Ortiz Building, 2600 Cerrillos Road, in Santa Fe. The full agenda, detailed agenda-item briefings and other information are available on the Department of Game and Fish Web site, www.wildlife.state.nm.us or by calling (505) 476-8008.

Other agenda items include:

  • A briefing about soliciting public comments about a proposal to change the daily bag limit at Conservancy Park Lake (Tingley Beach) in Albuquerque from five fish to three fish.
  • A presentation of several alternative management strategies for the Special Trout Water below Navajo Dam on the San Juan River.
  • A presentation of the Department's annual financial statements and audit report.

The State Game Commission is composed of seven members who represent the state’s diverse interests in wildlife-associated recreation and conservation. Members are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. Current members are Chairman Jim McClintic, Albuquerque; Vice-chairwoman Sandy Buffett, Santa Fe; M.H. “Dutch” Salmon, Silver City; Alfredo Montoya, Alcalde; Leo Sims, Hobbs; Tom Arvas, Albuquerque; and Kent Salazar, Albuquerque.
