NATIONWIDE SEARCH BEGINS FOR DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR The New Mexico Game Commission is accepting applications for the position of director of the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish. A committee composed of commission members Dick Salopek, Tom Arvas and Bill Montoya began a nationwide search for qualified applicants Wednesday. Interested applicants have until 5 p.m. Sept. 21 to submit resumes and other materials to the Department. The commission plans to select the new director from a list of five finalists identified by the search committee at its meeting Nov. 3 in Farmington. The Department director is an “exempt” position which serves at the pleasure of the commission. The annual salary will be between $56,000 and $100,000 based on experience and budgeting approval. The new director will replace Tod Stevenson, who announced plans to retire in October after having worked 33 years with the Department, including three as director. The commission will advertise the position in major regional newspapers and with nationwide fish and wildlife agencies, conservation organizations and universities. The announcement also will be on the Department website, www.wildlife.state.nm.us, and on its Facebook page, keyword NMDGF. Applications, including a letter of interest, resume, college transcripts and three letters of recommendation must be received by the Department of Game and Fish no later than 5 p.m. MDT Sept. 21, 2011. Applications may be hand-delivered or sent to the New Mexico State Game Commission, c/o Sonya Quintana, Human Resources Director, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, 1 Wildlife Way, Santa Fe, NM 87507. Late applications will not be accepted, regardless of the postmark date. The commission plans to narrow the applicants to no more than five finalists by Oct. 5 and conduct interviews in a special executive session-only meeting Oct. 13. The final selection will be announced at the commission’s regular meeting Nov. 3 in Farmington.
