DEPARTMENT TO HOST DEER AND ELK WORKSHOP The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will host the 2011 Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies’ Deer and Elk Workshop -- a forum for wildlife agencies and scholars to discuss deer and elk management strategies – May 16-19 at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort on Santa Ana Pueblo. The workshop will include a panel discussion on the role of predator versus habitat mechanisms on cervid population dynamics, and candid discussions of differing viewpoints about various factors influencing cervid populations. A general session about deer and elk research and management will be followed by papers and panels discussing limiting factors on elk and deer populations, including predator and ungulate management. An exhibitor area will be adjacent to the conference hall. Registration is $225 for regular participants and $175 for students and retirees through Feb. 28.
