DEC. 1 CHAMA PUBLIC MEETING RESCHEDULED FOR DEC. 14
TO DISCUSS RECREATION, ACCESS ON WILDLIFE AREAS
CHAMA -- The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has rescheduled a public meeting that was originally scheduled Dec. 1 in Chama to hear ideas and concerns about recreational opportunities on nearby wildlife areas owned by the State Game Commission. The meeting is now scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the Village of Chama Community Center conference room, 342 Pine Street .
The meeting was rescheduled due to a large amount of interest from the public and surrounding communities, as well as the Department's desire to gather as much input as possible. Public involvement is one step in a months-long process to create recreational opportunities and establish regulations to the benefit of wildlife and public that use wildlife management areas.
"These wildlife management areas are key recreation areas for people in the community and we want to make sure we take full advantage of the input," said Brian Gleadle, Chief of the Northwest Area Operations.
The meeting will include a presentation and discussions about current and future recreational opportunities, access and management of the Sargent, Rio Chama, and Humphries wildlife management areas. Participants will be encouraged to present their recommendations for activities such as wildlife viewing, bird watching, photography and other wildlife-related recreation.
Public input from the meeting will help the Department further develop its Gaining Access Into Nature opportunities on wildlife management areas throughout New Mexico, with emphasis on local areas.
