‘NEW MEXICO WILDLIFE’ TV OFFERS MORE HUNTING AND FISHING THIS SEASON Television viewers across New Mexico are invited to visit Aldo Leopold’s New Mexico home, Catch a Special Thrill at Navajo Lake, and cook up a cactus frittata with the Cast Iron Ranger this month when the third season of the “New Mexico Wildlife” television show begins broadcasting. The show, produced by the Department of Game and Fish, will appear first in the Albuquerque market beginning at 6:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, on KASA Fox Channel 2. The new shows eventually will be broadcast by KENW in Portales and KRWG in Las Cruces. The line-up for February: Saturday, Feb. 12: Fish for brook trout at Cabresto Lake near Questa; learn how New Mexico’s Habitat Stamp Program helps provide water for wildlife; enjoy the competition between boys and girls at the annual Youth Hunter Education Challenge at the NRA Whittington Center south of Raton; and discover a new way to enjoy Oryx by making Tulie Tips with Dan Brooks, the Cast Iron Ranger. Saturday, Feb. 19: Explore the Old West at a cowboy shootout at the annual End of Trail event in Edgewood; visit Aldo Leopold’s Tres Piedras home; take a tour of the biologically rich Armendaris Ranch in south central New Mexico; and learn how to make a frittata with Nopal or cactus pad. Saturday, Feb. 26: Watch the Department of Game and Fish catch a cougar in Santa Fe and relocate an Albuquerque beaver; take a glimpse at the National Archery in the Schools Program; and prepare your outdoor kitchen for your next Cast Iron Ranger adventure.
