PLANNING TO VISIT A GAME COMMISSION PROPERTY? DON’T FORGET YOUR LICENSE OR GAIN PERMIT SANTA FE – Department of Game and Fish officers will be on patrol Mother’s Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend ensuring that anyone using State Game Commission properties is legally licensed or permitted to be there. Visitors ages 18 or older at Commission properties such as the Bert Clancy, Terrero and Jamie Koch camping and fishing areas on the Pecos River; and the Sergeant, Rio Chama and Humphries areas near Chama are required to have either a current hunting, trapping or fishing license or a Gaining Access Into Nature (GAIN) permit, and a Habitat Management and Access Validation. The GAIN fees, authorized by the 2005 state Legislature, have been in place since 2006. Licenses, permits and validations are available at license vendors statewide, Department of Game and Fish offices in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Raton, Roswell and Las Cruces; online at www.wildlife.state.nm.us; or by telephone toll-free at (888) 248-6866. The call center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Families visiting Commission properties are reminded that everyone in the party age 18 or older must have a license or GAIN permit. Officers will be in the field educating the public about the requirements and issuing misdemeanor citations for noncompliance.
