Las nutrias de río prosperan en la parte alta del Río Grande

La nutria de río norteamericana (Lontra canadensis), miembro de la familia de las comadrejas (Mustelidae), es un mamífero semiacuático endémico del continente norteamericano. Originaria del río Gila de Nuevo México, del río Grande y del río Canadensis, esta especie ha estado tristemente ausente del Suroeste desde la década de 1950. La deforestación, la contaminación y las trampas no reguladas contribuyeron a su desaparición... ¡hasta ahora! Gila monster license plates available for purchase

SANTA FE — Each year, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish’s Share with Wildlife program supports efforts to address the many conservation-related needs of our Species of Greatest Conservation Need. The program funds innovative research and habitat enhancement and education projects conducted by universities and non-profit organizations and supports important wildlife rehabilitation efforts across our state at licensed rehabilitation centers. Share with Wildlife is funded primarily through public donations, and the people who generously contribute to the program are the ones who make all of these projects possible. Public donations to the program are matched by federal dollars to maximize project funding. During the past 10 years, more than $2.2 million has gone to research, habitat enhancement, education and rehabilitation projects. SANTA FE – The New Mexico State Game Commission will hold a special meeting Thursday, Oct. 10, to conduct a closed executive session. The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. and will take place virtually. Wildlife law violation checkpoints start for hunting, fishing seasons

SANTA FE – The Department of Game and Fish is conducting checkpoints throughout the state this hunting season to collect biological data and to detect wildlife law violations. As a result, the public may encounter minor delays. Department officers may be assisted by other law enforcement agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, New Mexico State Police or county sheriff's offices. Please report any wildlife crime or suspected crime that you may observe while enjoying New Mexico's great outdoors. To report a wildlife crime, please call Operation Game Thief toll-free at 1-800-432-GAME (4263). Callers can remain anonymous and earn cash rewards for information leading to charges being filed. Violations can also be reported online at Operation Game Thief.
