The Department will be instructing a third-grade class partnered with a special education group on the basics of casting and fishing. This lesson will be conducted on the playground area at Whittier Elementary School. Topics to be covered will be an introduction to rod and reel assembly, casting and fishing, with an emphasis on safety. We may also spend some time learning a knot, talking about what trout eat, and discussing New Mexico sportfishing, specifically coldwater fish, as this class is part of the Trout in the Classroom program raising trout from eggs. This event is closed to the public.
