NEW Mandatory Harvest Reporting Requirements
Remember that new mandatory harvest reporting requirements are in effect this year. If you held a 2013-2014 deer, elk, antelope or turkey license, the deadline to file a free report is February 15th, 2014. After this date, an $8 late fee will apply, but you MUST report before the March 19th application deadline or you will be rejected from the big game draw. If you hold a 2013-2014 barbary sheep, javelina, oryx, ibex, or trapper license, the deadline to report is April 7th, 2014. License holders must file a report, even if they didn’t hunt or trap. Failure to file your mandatory harvest report on time will result in rejection of all big game applications.
New Application Purchase Options
- New Mexico residents may select a Second-Rod validation when purchasing the Game-hunting & Fishing License.
- Residents and nonresidents will be offered the option to purchase the Stamp Package which includes the Habitat Management & Access Validation and Habitat Stamp. Applicants under 18 years of age will be offered the Habitat Stamp only.
- The Harvest Information Program (HIP) number also will be available for applicants to purchase separately
License/Tagging Procedures
Hunters successful in the draw for any big-game species or turkey, as well as hunters purchasing a license online, now print their license on any printer (no printer—no worries, call: 1-888-248-6866 for assistance). On the license is an area where the species must be completely blacked out or punched at the time of kill. Immediately upon arriving at a vehicle, camp or place of storage, the date and time of kill must be permanently written on the appropriate line. Carcass tags will no longer be issued and licenses will no longer be mailed.
Apply and Purchase Licenses by Telephone – Information Center Extended Hours
License information and purchases are available by toll-free telephone: 1-888-248-6866. The New Mexico Game and Fish Information Center is open year-round Monday–Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. The Information Center will be open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m to 8 p.m, and Saturdays noon to 5 p.m. from March 3rd through the 18th to accommodate those who don’t have access to apply online. We will close at 4:30 p.m. on March 19th, because all applications must be completed and paid for before the 5 p.m. deadline.
All Licenses Sold Electronically
Beginning April 1, all licenses will be sold electronically, and will be issued and/or printable in customers’ online accounts on regular paper. Special paper licenses will no longer be available from license vendors. Login to your account and select My Purchases to print your license(s).
Mentored-Youth Hunter Program
By passing a simple online quiz, youth hunters can receive a 2-year temporary number. Once the MY number is entered into their account information online, they will be able to purchase any firearm license, including a Game-Hunting or Game-hunting & Fishing License, as well as apply for draw hunts. Upland Game Now Included in the Hunting Rules and Information Booklet
Upland game hunting information (grouse, quail, pheasant and squirrel) has been incorporated into the 2014 Hunting Rules and Information booklet along with big game and furbearer species. Migratory bird hunting information will be published separately later in the year.
