FORT SUMNER – Lisa Ulibarri was found guilty found of the unlawful killing of a deer in closed season with the assistance of artificial light on January 28, 2016 at Fort Sumner in De Baca County.
Officer Jerry Pohl investigated the reported violation in collaboration with the De Baca County Sheriff’s Office. Ulibarri admitted to killing the spiked buck while hunting rabbits at night. She stated she started off by shooting at rabbits using a spotlight and saw the deer in the field, and then decided to shoot at them. She stated she was a bad shot and didn’t think she hit it. Charges were filed in De Baca County Magistrate Court and she was found guilty of spotlighting, hunting without a license, and unlawful killing of a deer in closed season. She was ordered to pay a total of $879. The reporting party was awarded $500 for providing valid information that lead to the conviction.
