RATON – Game and Fish officers are looking for information that would assist them in solving a case in which a mule deer buck was shot in the Valle Vidal during the weekend of Nov. 1. Deer hunting is closed in the Valle Vidal unit of the Carson National Forest.
Officers found a deer carcass with only the head and front shoulders removed just west of the McCrystal Campground on Nov 2. The suspects attempted to hide the carcass and left most of the meat to rot. “We are just starting to get some deer back in there,” said Officer Clint Henson. “This is a real treasure that has been stolen from the people of New Mexico. But there were a lot of people there that weekend for the elk hunt so we are hopeful that someone saw a deer being transported out of the area.”
The Department offers rewards for information that leads to the arrest or charges against wildlife law violators.
