DESCRIPTION:This camp is for participants of any age who are interested in learning more about the basics of archery and bowhunting. Participants will learn archery basics and safety\, how to choose equipment\, proper shot placement while hunting\, outdoor preparedness and more! \nAll archery equipment will be provided; however\, participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it. Camping is available at the State Park by reservation. Participants are responsible for all food and drinks. Youth under the age of 18 must have a parent or adult present during the camp. \nRegistration opens April 7\, 2026\, at 9 a.m. Click here to register. Once in the account\, click on Hunter Education\, then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts. \nWhat do I need for class: \n\nObtain a copy of the hunter education student manual by picking up a hard copy at the Garrison Safety Office on White Sands Missile Range\, Bldg. 124\, Room 303\, WSMR\, NM 88002\, or download a free electronic manual from www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/.\nComplete the worksheets from the student manual. Worksheets can be printed from the website listed above OR completed on pages 91-94 in the back of the hard copy student manual.\nThere are no fees associated with Department hunter education courses; however\, donations may be offered to volunteers to help offset out-of-pocket expenses to put on the course.\nBring a sack lunch\, snacks and drinks.\n\nSpecial notes: \n\nStudent worksheets must be 100% complete prior to class or students will not be allowed to participate in the course (no exceptions).\nDO NOT bring firearms or ammunition to the course. SUMMARY:Advanced Hunter Education Skills Camp
DESCRIPTION:This camp is open to youth ages 10-17 who are accompanied by a registered adult. The camp is free\, meals will be provided and participants will tent-camp on the property. \nParticipants will learn safe and responsible firearms handling\, ethical hunting behaviors\, conservation\, wildlife identification and basic survival skills. Additionally\, participants will learn from Department conservation officers about their jobs\, including wildlife investigations\, decoy operations and working with wildlife. They will also test their marksmanship skills with shotguns. All equipment will be provided. \nRegistration opens April 6 at 9 a.m. (click here to register). Slots will be filled on a first-come\, first-served basis. To qualify for the camp\, participants must have a Customer Identification Number account with the Department and complete the required homework before attending.

DESCRIPTION:The New Mexico Department of Wildlife\, in conjunction with New Mexico Outdoor Adventures\, will host a Family Crappie Fishing Camp at Navajo Lake State Park on May 29-31\, 2026. Campers will be provided with everything from instruction to gear to meals. Campers will need to provide their own fishing licenses\, tent or wheeled camper\, sleeping bag and sleeping pad. We will have a reserved group camping area at the State Park. Open to families and individuals with previous fishing experience\, but who have never fished for crappie. \nRegistration will open at 8 a.m. Monday\, May 11\, 2026. DESCRIPTION:The Department will be assisting the New Mexico YHEC 501c3 with putting on this year’s youth hunter education challenge. \nNew Mexico Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is held once a year for kids ages 7-18 to help improve their hunting\, marksmanship and safety skills. \nThrough simulated hunting situations\, live fire competitions\, and responsible hunting events\, YHEC helps build upon skills learned in basic hunter education courses and encourages safer\, lifelong hunting habits. \nFrom rifle\, bow and muzzleloader shooting at life-sized targets\, to wildlife identification\, map and compass orienteering and more\, YHEC participants get hands-on training in eight skill areas\, giving them expertise in all hunting practices. \nRegistration for the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) will be on nmyhec.com.\nParticipants must have taken a hunter education class to compete.
