DESCRIPTION:This class is open to any lady who is interested in learning the basics of fly fishing. The morning session will focus on fly fishing equipment selection\, knot tying\, selecting lures/flies\, casting instruction and general discussions on where to go. The afternoon session will be on the water! Casting and fishing instruction will be provided by professional fishing guides and Trout Unlimited -Enchanted Circle Chapter volunteers. Loaner equipment will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have it. \nThis class will be offered by volunteers from the Enchanted Circle Chapter of Trout Unlimited. \nRegistration is available here. DESCRIPTION:The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is hosting a Hunter Education Skills Day at Esther Bone Memorial Library on Wednesday\, July 31\, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Registration is open to youth 10-17 years of age who have not yet passed a hunter education course. Participants will have the opportunity to earn their hunter education certification during this session. \nThis opportunity is free\, and the course is a blended learning session. For the first part of the session\, students must complete their reading\, quizzes\, and exam online at https://www.ilearntohunt.com/newmexico/ before the July 31 Skills Day (once registered a code will be provided so the student can take the online portion free of charge). In part two\, students who complete the required online portion will bring their completion certificate to the in-person session on July 31\, hosted at the library. \nDuring the skills day\, Department staff and certified volunteer instructors will be sharing their hunting knowledge and providing students the opportunity to learn how to safely handle deactivated hunting-style firearms\, test their ethical shot placement and safe firearms handling skills with a shoot/don’t shoot simulator\, and have the unique opportunity to learn how to field dress and elk using the Department’s new virtual reality field dressing simulator! \nParticipants must bring their lunch\, snacks and drinks for the day. \nRegistration Details:\n \nTo qualify\, participants must be at least 10 years of age at the time of registration and have not previously passed a hunter education course. Space is limited to 15 and will be filled on a first-come basis. Each youth must submit a completed registration form at https://forms.office.com/g/92WtBUvvXa to qualify. Registration opens on July 8 at 9 am. \nBefore completing this registration form\, each youth must have a New Mexico Department of Game and Fish Customer Identification Number (CIN) account. This course is an instructor-led\, student course that incorporates lecture\, video\, hands-on break-out sessions\, review methods and homework to educate students. Students 10 and under must have a parent or adult present with them during class. All registered students MUST complete the Today’s Hunter student manual homework before participating in class. The manual can be downloaded for free at\, www.hunter-ed.com/newmexico/manual/ or students can pick up a free hard copy manual at  Las Cruces Game and Fish Office\, 2715 E Northrise Dr.\, Las Cruces\, NM 88011. Students are required to turn in their completed manual worksheets upon arrival to class. \nRegistration opens on June 24\, at 9 a.m. and is conducted online through the students Customer Id Number (CIN) Account. Once in the account\, click on Hunter Education then click the Register for Hunter Ed Classes button and follow the prompts.

DESCRIPTION:The Department will be assisting the New Mexico YHEC 501c3 with putting on this year’s youth hunter education challenge. \nNew Mexico Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) is held once a year for kids ages 7-18 to help improve their hunting\, marksmanship and safety skills. \nThrough simulated hunting situations\, live fire competitions\, and responsible hunting events\, YHEC helps build upon skills learned in basic hunter education courses and encourages safer\, lifelong hunting habits. \nFrom rifle\, bow and muzzleloader shooting at life-sized targets\, to wildlife identification\, map and compass orienteering and more\, YHEC participants get hands-on training in eight skill areas\, giving them expertise in all hunting practices. \nRegistration for the Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) will be on nmyhec.com.\nParticipants must have taken a hunter education class to compete.
